Blog 14: Free and Off the Leash

Bog 14: Free and Off the Leash

Amin our trusted and informative guide

We sadly say good bye to Zanny and Skip our intrepid fellow travelers as they leave for London a day earlier than us (since there are only a few nonstops to Paris weekly, as Air France just resumed flights to Tehran).

We also reluctantly say good-bye to our wonderful guide, Amin who had taught us so much.

While I fell in love with our guide and felt he was the best, most knowledgeable and sincere guide we have ever had, it was still wonderful to  have our last day in Tehran  “free” or off the leash to explore independently. While technically Americans and Brits are supposed to be with a guide at all times other European tourists are not required to do this.  We enjoyed having a day to pick up our own taxis, pay our own meals and tour without a fixed schedule.

Later in the afternoon our Iranian friends Hossein and Feri took us out of town into the countryside, which was a peaceful break from the city orientation of the remainder of our trip.

We went to a place near their summer home where there is a ski resort for a lovely walk. If it wasn’t for the donkeys I almost might have imagined I was in Whistler.

We had dinner at one of their favorite restaurants situated right beside a mountain stream.

Our “last supper” was spent with Iranian friends talking about our experiences and trying to figure out how we can disseminate accurate information about these friendly Iranian people to our American friends. Without a doubt we felt not only safe but more welcomed here than any other country we have visited.
